Rowing boats and outboard motor boats are available for hire at the quay, and modern motor boats make frequent short trips from the landing stage at the town end of the Promenade, and from the quay, to give a seaward view of the coast on both sides of the Bay. Some of these boats also run trips to the lobster fishing grounds and visitors may have the unusual experience of seeing the main ingredient of their lobster salad hauled from the sea and may collect it a few hours later ready for serving!
The Swanage Sailing Club, with headquarters near the pier entrance, races in the Bay on Thursday evenings and on Saturday afternoons and temporary membership is available to those interested. Boats can also be hired at Studland. Throughout the summer, the Swanage Pier offers a full schedule of passenger trips to and from the pier. City Cruises Ltd is in charge of passenger boat tours.
